Sam Peck is in his second year as assistant swimming coach at his alma mater.

Peck graduated from Rhode Island in 2001 as one of the top men's distance swimmers in school history, having won all but one regular season race during his senior year. He graduated with school records in the 500-yard freestyle (4:32.74), the 1,000 freestyle (16:01.61) and the 400 individual medley (4:03.52), breaking the 400 IM mark all four years.

The Providence, R.I.-native just missed out on winning medals at the 2001 Atlantic 10 Championships, finishing fourth in three events (400 IM, 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly). Peck was a four-time Atlantic 10 finalist in the 400 IM and 500 freestyle.

As a high school swimmer for Hope High in Providence Peck won three straight gold medals in the 500 freestyle and three straight silver medals in the 200 freestyle at the Rhode Islad state championships. As a club swimmer Peck was the New England 15-16 age-group champion in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles in 1994, the same year he won long-course titles in the 200- and 400-meter freestyles. In the 19996 New England senior championships, Peck took second in both the 500 and 1,000 freestyles.
