Zabludoff and Kirchoff Named Atlantic 10 Performer and Rookie of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island swimming and diving team swept the weekly Atlantic 10 awards with Chaya Zabludoff taking home Performer of the Week and Jenna Kirchoff earning the Rookie of the Week honor, the conference announced Tuesday.

Zabludoff and Kirchoff propelled the Rams to victory at the Harold Anderson Invitational. Rhode Island beat Assumption, Bryant, Holy Cross, Maine and Providence at the meet, held Friday Nov. 30 and Saturday Dec. 1.

Zabludoff (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) earned the A-10 Performer of the Week award with her five first-place finishes. She won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:02.44 and was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay on the opening day of competition.  On the second day, she won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.15) and 100-yard freestyle (52.69), and was part of the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Kirchoff, a freshman from Severna Park, Md., received Rookie of the Week by taking first place in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:38.20) and third in the 400-yard individual medley (4:41.28).

The team returns to pool December 1 to compete in state at Bryant. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
