Swimming Honored by CSCAA

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island men's and women's swimming & diving teams each received Academic All-America honors by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The men's squad posted a 3.031 GPA while the women recorded a team GPA of 3.07.

Twenty-five of the 39 member's of the women's team posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and nine of them - Rosmin Ennis (Marine Biology), Melissa Flynn (Nursing), Cherisa Friedlander (Marine Biology), Haley Johnson (Pharmacy), Andrea LeBarge (Coastal Studies and Marine Biology), Kelly Mohr (Early Childhood Education), Megan O'Brien (Marine Biology), Sarah Slinkard (Journalism), and Maura Zaneski (Textile Marketing and Accounting) - were named to the University's Dean's List.

The men, meanwhile, placed six on the Dean's List: Matt Burak (Chemical Engineering), Robert Deering (Pharmacy), Michael Ennis (Biology and Secondary Education), Dan Perreault (Business), and Matt Zrada (Pharmacy). Burak and Deering each had a GPA of 4.0, while Sheatsley recently received the URI Presidential Award for posting the highest GPA (3.88) in his major.

The URI women's squad posted a 9-6 record in 2007-08 and established six varsity record at the Atlantic 10 Championships, while the men posted their best record in 10 seasons and had their highest finish at the A-10's (seventh) since 2003.

The men's and women's selection by the CSCAA marks the first time in school history both squads have received the honor in the same season.
