Swimming Sweeps Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Rhode Island men's and women's swim teams defeated Vermont at Forbush Natatorium this afternoon. The URI men defeated Vermont 157-93, while the Rhode Island women's team earned a 199-100 victory over the Catamounts.

Senior Jodi Tveitmoe (Westminister, Colo.) and sophomore Kari Leonard (Pownal, Maine) each won two events to lead the Rams.

Tveitmoe won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:51.30 and won the 200 butterfly in 2:10.87. Leonard won the 100 freestyle in 55.30 seconds and took first in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.67.

Senior Kate Hawley (Centerville, Mass.) won the 200 backstroke (2:16.82), sophomore Caroline Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.) won the 200 freestyle (2:01.58) and sophomore Lauren Kerivan (North Reading, Mass.) took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.71). Senior Jessica Scherer (Montgomery Village, Mary.) won the 200 IM (2:18.66) and freshman Elaina Duggan (Portsmouth, R.I.) took first in the 50 freestyle (25.96).

Rhode Island's 200 medley relay team of Leonard, junior Liatte Krueger (Union, N.J.), Lelek and junior Katherine Grise (Chicopee, Mass.) won in a time of 1:56. Rhode Island's 400 freestyle relay team of Duggan, Tveitmoe, freshman Kelly Dansbury (Langhorne, Pa.) and freshman Katherine Mason (West Springfield, Mass.) won in 3:49.20.

The Rhode Island women's team improved to 1-2 and the men's team remained unbeaten at 3-0. Both of Vermont's teams dropped to 0-3.

Rhode Island returns to action on Nov. 23 at Fordam, with Duquesne at 12:30 p.m.
