Smith Resigns as Softball Coach

KINGSTON, R.I. - Deb Smith, head softball coach at the University of Rhode Island, announced her resignation today, it was announced by Thorr Bjorn, Director of Athletics. "I want to thank the University of Rhode Island for providing me with the opportunity to coach," said Smith. "The team has a bright future ahead of them, and I wish them the best of luck." In three seasons as head coach, Smith guided the Rams to a 44-99 record, including a 14-38 mark this past season. She came to URI in 2006 following six seasons as head coach at the University of Maine, where she posted a record of 119-141. "We would like to thank Deb Smith for her dedication to the Rhode Island softball program over the past three seasons," said Bjorn. "We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. I feel very strongly that we can be successful in softball and look forward to searching for a new coach that will put us in position to compete for a conference championship year-in and year-out."
