Softball Defeated by Fordham on Senior Day
May 2, 2009
KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island softball team (13-36 overall; 2-14 Atlantic 10) fell 11-2 to Fordham (35-19 overall; 12-6 Atlantic 10) on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the URI Softball Complex. Prior to the game, the Rams honored seniors Alyse Fram (Pawtucket, R.I.), Stefani Poedubicky (Wrightstown, N.J.), Rachel Rosenwasser (Montgomery, N.Y.) and Odalys Torres (Carteret, N.J.). Fordham took the lead in the second inning as Jocelyn Dearborn hit her eighth home run of the year. The Rams would then score a pair runs in the third and add another run in the fourth to push its lead to 4-0. In the fourth, Rhody got on the board as junior Melissa Wilson (Longview, Wash.) led off the inning as she hit her team-leading fourth home run of the year to centerfield. URI would then cut Fordham's lead in half thanks to a double to left field by Poedubicky, which drove in junior Darci Borden from third. After a scoreless fifth, Fordham scored seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the win. Rhode Island returns to action on Sunday as it welcomes La Salle. The first pitch of the doubleheader begins at noon.
