Saint Louis Sweeps Softball, 1-0 (9 inn.) and 6-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rhode Island dropped a pair of Atlantic 10 softball games to Saint Louis on Saturday at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex at Rhode Island College. The Billikens (19-19, 6-0 A-10) won the first game, 1-0, in nine innings, before defeating the Rams (6-18, 1-5 A-10), 6-3, in game two. In the opener, Saint Louis pitcher Ashley Levan struck out 20 URI batters, including nine of the first 10 she faced, while only allowing three hits in nine innings of work to improve to 9-7 this spring. Rhody starter Jill Anderson (1-8) also went the distance, scattering nine hits and striking out five, while only walking one Billiken. Saint Louis plated the game's only run in the top of the eighth inning. Christy Ernst advanced to second on a dropped fly ball by Rhody centerfielder Stefani Poedubicky, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Annie Dillinger. Ernst would come home on a RBI bunt by Kinsely Kelly for the winning run. In game two, SLU starter Lorena Floccari limited the Rams to four hits, and one earned run in 6.1 innings as the Billikens completed the sweep. Alyssa Martino finished the game 2-for-3, while Darci Borden hit her first homerun of the season for the Rams. Rhody starter Katie Halcomb took the loss, allowing nine hits and four earned runs, while striking out two to fall to 4-9 this season. The Rams return to action on Tuesday, April 10 with a doubleheader at Boston College starting at 3:00 p.m., before coming home on Thursday, April 12, for a non-conference doubleheader with Quinnipiac slated to start at 3:00 p.m. at the Rhode Island Softball Conference.
