Jordan Stevens is in his second season as the assistant coach with the University of Rhode Island softball team. Stevens comes to Kingston, R.I., after spending the two seasons as the assistant coach at Niagara University. While there, Stevens coached NU's Felicia Coffey and Kristin Kill to MAAC Co-Player and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively. In addition, Stevens helped the Purple Eagles set a school record for overall and conference victories in 2008 as the team finished with a 27-21 overall mark and a 13-3 league record. During his time at Niagara, Stevens was directly responsible for player development and individual hitting instruction. "I'm happy to have Jordan join our coaching staff here at Rhode Island," said URI head coach Erin Layton. "He has a wealth of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels and he will be an asset to our program." Under his watch, Niagara posted its best-ever finish in national offensive statistics as it ranked 13th in home runs (54), 18th in slugging percentage (.473) and 34th in both scoring (243) and batting average (.294). Prior to his stint at Niagara, Stevens served as the head coach for the varsity softball team at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio from 2004-2006. In 2004 and 2005, Stevens guided the team to back-to-back conference championships and was a two-time coach of the year in both seasons. Under the direction of Stevens, Notre Dame also won two state sectional championships (2005 and 2006). Following the 2005 season, Stevens was honored as the Northwest Ohio Division I Coach of the Year. He also served as the Northwest Ohio Division I All-Star coach in 2005. At the end of his tenure at Notre Dame, Stevens had coached 10 all-district, 17 all-league and two all-state athletes. |
