How It Happened
Rhode Island (12-35, 3-17 Atlantic 10) was shut out in its season finale, falling to Dayton 1-0 Sunday.

Dayton (28-23, 15-8 A-10) took a 1-0 in the top of the second inning. With runners on first and second, a passed ball allowed Ellie Ziegler to advance to third. She never broke stride and came across the plate as the Rhode Island defense had trouble locating the ball behind the plate.

That was the only run of the game as three Dayton pitchers limited Rhode Island to one hit and three walks. Jessica Gillam (9-7) pitched four innings for the victory. Briley Sidor pitched one scoreless inning, and Manda Cash hurled the final two innings to earn the save.
