How It Happened
Rhode Island (11-27, 3-9 Atlantic 10) scored a run with its first batter of the day, but did not get any more runs on the day as it dropped a doubleheader to Saint Joseph's (17-22, 4-10 A-10), 20-1 and 4-0.
Game 1 – Saint Joseph's 20, Rhode Island 1
Adriana Toro hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning for Rhode Island. That 1-0 lead stood until the fifth inning, when Saint Joseph's erupted for eight runs. The Hawks removed all doubt an inning later with 12 more runs in the top of the sixth.
Game 2 – Saint Joseph's 4, Rhode Island 0
The Hawks scored two runs in the first seven pitches of the second game, as a pair of doubles sandwiched around a triple put the Rams in an early hole. Rhody had its best chance when it loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the third. Melanie Martire launched a long fly ball to left, but it was caught at the fence, ending the threat. A pair of runs provided insurance for Saint Joseph's in the top of the sixth.
