Waraksy Named Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island junior Julia Waraksy has been named Atlantic 10 co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. She shared the honor with Meg Colleran of Massachusetts.

Waraksy was dominant in a pair of relief outings last week for the Rams, earning two victories while pitching 7.0 innings without allowing any runs. She gave up just one single in 3.1 innings of relief in a 5-3 win at Providence on March 20. Waraksy followed that up by hurling 3.2 innings of one-hit relief in a 6-4, 11-inning win at George Mason on Sunday.

For the week, Waraksy did not allow a runner past first base, and she needed just 92 pitches to get through seven innings of work. She struck out three batters and walked just one. She is now 2-0 with a 3.27 earned run average over nine appearances on the season.

Waraksy and the Rams went 3-1 last week and have won four of the last five games overall. Rhode Island won its first Atlantic 10 series of the season, taking two out of three at George Mason.

This is the first pitcher of the week honor for Rhode Island in nearly four years, dating back to when Sam Before earned the honor for the week of April 7, 2014. It is the first weekly honor of the season for the Rams. Last season Sarah Gunderson earned Rookie of the Week honors for May 1 and Kylie Shivery was the league's player of the week for April 3.

Rhode Island travels to La Salle for a three-game series that begins Friday, March 30 at 3 p.m.
