How it Happened
Junior Andrea Chiaradio delivered a strong outing when Rhode Island needed it most, but the Rams still fell 3-0 at Massachusetts in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Chiarado (1-3) took a tough loss despite limiting UMass to just two earned runs. Rhode Island (11-18, 2-7 Atlantic 10) could not figure out Massachusetts (12-20, 6-4 A-10) starter Taylor Carbone and was not able to take advantage of Chiaradio's best start of the season.
With Rhody playing the first of three doubleheaders over the next four days, Chiaradio hurled her first complete game of the season and third of her career. After allowing two hits – including a two-run home run to Tara Klee in the first inning – Chiaradio allowed just one unearned run on four hits, all singles, the rest of the way.
