Kylie Shivery Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island sophomore Kylie Shivery was named the Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Meg Colleran of Massachusetts was the Pitcher of the Week, while Colleran's teammate, Erin Stacevicz, was the league's Rookie of the Week.

Shivery had another strong weekend for the Rams, batting .400 with three home runs, one double and nine runs batted in over four games. She hit safely in all four games and drove in two or more runs in three of the games.

In Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Norfolk State, Shivery had the game-winning RBI in both victories. She was particularly clutch in the second game, when she belted a pair of home runs. Shivery hit a solo homer in the fourth inning, and then, with Rhody trailing 6-4, she hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning that sent the game into extra innings. In the top of the ninth inning, she put the Rams ahead 7-6 with a sacrifice fly.

In addition to her hitting prowess, Shivery was strong in the field, handling 18 chances cleanly at third base. She had 15 assists and three putouts over the four games.

For the season, Shivery leads Rhode Island in batting average (.378), hits (14), home runs (4), runs batted in (18), slugging percentage (.730) and on-base percentage (.429). Her 18 RBI is already three more than any Rhode Island player had for the entire season a year ago.

Shivery is the first Rhode Island player to earn A-10 Player of the Week honors in 14 seasons. The last player to win the honor was Gwen Rack in 2002.
