Kelly Named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island freshman Meg Kelly was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

In her first four games, Kelly batted .444 (4-for-9) with two runs batted in at the Southern Miss Coca-Cola Classic. She had a single and one RBI to help the Rams defeat Central Arkansas in the season opener on Feb. 11. It was the first time since 1999 Rhode Island won its first game of the season.

Kelly has started all four games at second base for Rhode Island this season. In addition to her strong showing at the plate, she has handled all 13 of her fielding chances cleanly so far, posting nine putouts and four assists.

Kelly shared the Rookie of the Week honors with Lauren Rendon from Saint Joseph's. The Player of the Week was Massachusetts senior Stephanie Mayne, while her teammate, Sara Plourde, earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Rhode Island (1-3) is off until Friday, March 2 when it travels to Georgia Tech to play five games over three days at the Buzz Classic in Woodstock, Ga.
