Knapp Joins URI Softball Coaching Staff

Aug. 13, 2010

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island softball head coach Erin Layton announced Thursday that Kelsey Knapp will join the coaching staff for the start of the 2011 season.

The Pittsburgh native will work with the Rhody pitching staff this upcoming year.

"I am so thrilled to have Kelsey join the staff," Layton said. "Her experience working with pitchers at the collegiate level and as student-athlete at the division I level will be a valuable asset to the program."

Knapp arrives in Kingston after spending three years as an assistant softball coach at Oberlin College.

During her tenure at Oberlin, Knapp served as the pitching coach for the Yeowomen and played a large role in recruiting, scouting, and camp administration while assisting with the day-to-day duties in the softball office.

In 2009, Knapp helped direct former Yeowomen pitcher Michelle Zanni to school records in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched, appearances and earned run average.

A 2007 graduate of the University of Delaware, Knapp earned three varsity letters pitching for the Blue Hens. She also worked as an instructor for the softball team's pitching and hitting clinic.

As a student-athlete off the field, she helped lead Delaware's H.E.N.S. peer mentoring program.
