Blue & Gold Felsberg Memorial Kicks-off Softball's Spring Break Southern Swing

KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island's softball team will be participating in its second tournament of the season March 10-12, as it heads to sunny Miami, Fla. and the Blue and Gold Felsberg Memorial hosted by Florida International University. The Rams play in the first game of the tournament against Manhattan at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (March 10).
In double-header, action on Friday URI (1-4) is scheduled to take on Harvard at 1:30 p.m. The Rams will face tournament host Florida International on Saturday 1:30 p.m., before bracket play begins at 4:00 p.m. The Championship and Consolation games are scheduled for Sunday. Manhattan is coming off a 3-1 performance at the George Washington Invitational, where it won its last two games on Feb. 26, 13-5 and 11-10 over Mount St. Mary's and George Washington respectively. The Jaspers are led by Liz Strein with .571 batting average. Kiera Fox leads the team with nine RBIs on the season.
Harvard comes to Miami with 1-3 record at the Plant City Tournament. The Crimson won, 8-2, over Temple but lost to Toledo, Buffalo and Michigan State.
Tournament host FIU (7-13) having the most games under its belt recently split a series with Boston college, losing the first game 4-3 then coming back to win the night cap 2-1. The Golden Panthers have been led by Ashley Falk and Tabitha Embry at the plate. Falk leads the team with a .324 batting average. With a .314 average Embry has seven RBIs and ten runs on the season.
URI will play a single game against FIU on Tuesday (March 14) at 7:00 p.m. before heading to West Palm Beach, Fla. to continue its southern road swing at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
