KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island women's soccer head coach Zac Shaw has announced the incoming class for the upcoming 2009 season. Nine new student-athletes will join the Rams to continue their academic and athletic endeavors.

Jennifer Barrientos - Forward - Reseda, Calif./Redlands East Valley
Before URI: Was a member of the So Cal Blues and Laguna Hills Eclipse clubs in Southern California...During her club career, her teams won the Coast Premier League and won the Surf Cup Championship...Named MVP of the Sun Cup, the Surf Cup and the Coca-Cola Cup...While at Redlands East Valley, she was named the MVP in the Valley Mission League and received the CIF/Los Angeles City Section Athletic Award...Selected to the ODP Region IV Pool First Team in her lone year as an ODP player...Fluent in Spanish.

Ashley Evangelista - Forward - Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic
Before URI: Four-year starter at Central Catholic, captaining the team during hersenior year...Was a four-year All-Merrimack Valley Conference selection... Ashley was also a 2008 NSCAA All-New England Regional selection and was the two-time Merrimack Valley Conference League Player of the Year and Lawrence Eagle-Tribune MVP in both 2007 and 2008...Also named the Eastern Massachusetts Division II State MVP, the Boston Globe Division II Scholastic Player of the Year and was named to the Boston Herald All Scholastic Team... Finished her high school career with 103 points...Lettered in track, earning All-Conference honors in the 4x100m relay, long jump and 100 yd dash...Was also a four-year letterwinner and starting point guard in basketball led her team to the Division I State finals...Is an accomplished piano player.

Torey Hart - Midfield/Forward - Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset
Before URI: Five-year member of the South Shore Select Academy - Massachusetts' top-ranked club and the 24th-best nationally...In 2007, helped South Shore Select Academy to an undefeated U.S. Region I Championship and the 2007 U17 Massachusetts State Championship...Was a four-year varsity starter at Cohasset, captaining the squad as a senior...Tallied 54 goals and 52 assists in her career...Was a three-time First Team Eastern Mass All-Star and was a 2008 Boston Globe Top 10 Scorer in Eastern Mass....Named to the Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic Team from 2006-08...Voted Team Offensive MVP in 2006 and 2008...A member of the National Honor Society...Also captained her high school swim team and is the Massachusetts State Champion in the 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle relay.

Maggie MacDonald - Midfielder - Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson
Before URI: Captained her Whitman-Hanson squad as a senior...The team was ranked #15 in the country in 2008...Won the team's Unsung Hero Award...Helped guide the squad to three Atlantic Coast League Championships (2005-07) and the 2008 Patriot League Championship...Was a 2007 All-Atlantic Coast League selection and an All-Patriot League Selection in 2008...Also received All-Star Honors from The Patriot Ledger and The Brockton Enterprise...Was an Eastern Massachusetts Girls Soccer Coaches Association All-Star...As a club player, she helped her MPS Lady Crusaders team to the 2008 Super Y-League North American Championship.

Janely Martinez - Midfielder - Warwick, R.I./Warwick Veterans
Before URI: Was a four year letterwinner for Warwick Veterans and was nominated as the Gatorade Rhode Island High School Player of the Year in 2008...Earned Second Team All-State honors as a senior...Was a First Team All-Division pick from 2006-08...Played club soccer for the Warwick Firefighters and the NOVA Premier Soccer Club from Massachusetts....Also lettered in track...Ranked in the top 35 in her class, she wrote for her school newspaper and was a member of the National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society.

Brooke Messier - Goalkeeper - North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown
Before URI: Played club soccer for the Rhode Island Rays, which has captured the state championship for the past four seasons...As a a prep, captained North Kingstown as a senior year and was a Second Team All-Division pick...Registered the highest save total in the state of Rhode Island as a junior.

Kat Prenda - Forward - West Greenwich, R.I./Exeter-West Greenwich
Before URI: Three-time First Team All-Division selection at Exeter-West Greenwich...Was a 2008 First Team All-State selection and was voted team MVP as a junior and senior...Selected to the 2008 NSCAA Region 1 Team...Finished her high school career with 40 goals and led all Rhode Island Division II players in assists...2008 Gatorade Rhode Island Player of the Year Nominee...Was a Region 1 ODP Pool player and a member of the Rhode Island ODP team...Participated in the United States Scholar Athlete Games 2008 in soccer.

Courtney Rohrig - Forward - Ludlow, Vt./Black River
Before URI: A four-year starter at Black River, helping the team to three Vermont state titles...Named the Black River High School Athlete of the Year...Set the Vermont state record for most career points scored (304) while registering a school record for career goals (132) and assists (42)..Earned All-League and All-State honors from the Burlington Press in each of her four years...Was a 2008 NSCAA All-New-England regional selection...Two-time Gatorade Vermont Player of the Year Nominee...Was the Vermont state Wendy's Heisman awardwinner...Was also an All-League standout in basketball and softball...Finished her basketball career with over 1,000 points and was a McDonald's All-American Nominee...Set single-season and career school records home runs...Earned her Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Erin Sorlien - Midfield/Back - South Kingstown, R.I./South Kingstown
Before URI: Was a four-year starter and standout at South Kingstown...Was a First Team All-Division selection in 2008...Second team All-Division pick in 2007...A founding member of Fortuna RI, the club founded and run by the URI women's soccer staff...Awarded the 2008 U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar-Athlete Award...Helped guide Fortuna RI to the Rhode Island State Futsal Championship and was named to the 2008 USFF U-19 Mid-Atlantic All-Regional Futsal Team...Enjoys riding horses and surfing.
