David Tallies Third Goal of Season in 2-1 Loss to Dayton
Oct. 10, 2008
KINGSTON, R.I. -- The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at home to Dayton on Friday night. Freshman Courtney David tallied her third goal of the season in the 63rd minute, cutting the Rams' (4-9-1, 0-5 A-10) deficit to 2-1. Despite their strong effort down the stretch, URI was unable to score the equalizer. The Flyers (9-3-1, 3-0-1 A-10) got on the board in the 18th minute, as Kelly Blumenschein fired a shot to the upper right 90 from about 40 yards out. Caitlin Proffitt set up the crossing shot, which beat URI goalkeeper Agnes Arnadottir. Arnadottir, normally a center-back for Rhode Island, was making her first appearance in goal, replacing an injured Jackie Fede. In the 25th minute, UD added another score on another high, crossing shot. Amanda Gallow found the back of the net on a right-to-left ball from about 10 yards out. Dayton took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. In the second half, David tallied a goal for the Rams on a point blank blast in the box, which got by Dayton goalkeeper Deana Waintraub at the 62:48 mark. For the game, Arnadottir made eight saves for Rhode Island, while Waintraub made seven stops for the Flyers. URI outshot Dayton, 20-14, but UD put 10 shots on-goal to Rhody's eight. Rhode Island returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 12 when it hosts Xavier at the URI Soccer Complex. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team, which takes on Massachusetts at 3:30 p.m.
