Rams Host Richmond, GW in Regular Season Finale Weekend

Oct. 30, 2009

KINGSTON, R.I. -- The Rhode Island women's soccer team closes out the 2009 regular season with a pair of Atlantic 10 contests at home this weekend.

The Rams (5-11-1; 3-6 A-10) host Richmond (8-8-2; 4-4-1 A-10) on Friday evening at the URI Soccer Complex. The game is also South County Youth Soccer Night - featuring free admission for children wearing their South County soccer jersey, as well as a scrimmage at halftime between the U-11 teams.

Rhody is coming off a 1-1 weekend in Ohio. URI dropped a 2-0 decision at Dayton on Oct. 23 before earning a 4-0 victory at Xavier on Oct. 25. The Rams matched their season-high in goals, as Alexis Veith, Kaylen Shimoda, Mary Kate Krol, and Kassandra Spitler each tallied goals. Tara Murphy notched her third shutout of the season in goal.

The Spiders come to Kingston having dropped three of their last four matches. UR fell, 1-0, at home to both Duquesne on Oct. 23 and St. Bonaventure on Oct. 25.

On Sunday morning, the Rams will host George Washington at 11 a.m. at the URI Soccer Complex. In addition to it being the 2009 regular season finale, it will also mark the final home appearance for seniors Ina Bjorklid, Colleen Dowd, Kristie Moltz, Kassandra Spitler, and Amanda Thomas.

The Colonials enter the weekend with a 6-7-4 record and a 3-4-2 mark in A-10 action. The game will be televised, via tape delay, on Cox Sports Television.
