Rower Ashleigh Tate Named CRCA First-Team All-Region

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island sophomore Ashleigh Tate was named a First-Team Mid-Atlantic All-Region selection by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Associaion (CRCA). The award recognizes the outstanding performance of rowers from each of the five Division I regions.

Five other Rams - senior lightweight Erin Baxter, senior coxswain Marissa Owens, senior lightweight Lori Sutton, sophomore Lucy Sumners and junior Catherine Pruszynski - were named CRCA National Scholar Athletes.

Tate was a member of the second-place ECAC Metro varsity 8 that helped lead the Rams to third place overall out of a field of 12 teams in the field. She also rowed in the V8 that placed second in the Petite Final at the Knecht Cup and third at the Yankee Cup.

A total of 135 rowers in five different regions were named National Scholar Athletes by the CRCA. The Mid Atlantic Region led the way with 44 student athltes from 16 different schools qualifying for the National Scholar Athlete Team. Rowers had to have at least a 3.5 gpa. and be at least a sophomore to be eligible for the team.
