May 24, 2007

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Senior Tamara Burman (Woonsocket, R.I.) was named to the 2007 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-New England Region First Team. The awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers from each of the five Division I regions, organized into first and second-team selections.

Most recently, on May 15, Burman helped guide the Rams' Varsity 8 boat to a third place finish in the petite final at the EAWRC Sprints, in Cooper River, N.J. She was also part of the varsity 8 crew which captured individual honors at the Atlantic 10 championship on April 20.

Additionally, six URI rowers were honored for their academic success, as part of the CRCA's 2007 Scholar-Athlete Team. To be eligible, a student-athlete has to have met all eligibility rules as defined by their institution; be in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of eligibility; rowed in the institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event; and have compiled a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
