Rams Place Second at ECAC Metro Championships

CAMDEN, N.J. - The University of Rhode Island rowing team placed second overall in team points and third overall in NCAA scoring events (Varsity 8, JV 8, Varsity 4) at the ECAC Metro Championships Sunday afternoon on the Cooper River in `The Garden State.'

The Rams placed third in the Varsity 8 with a time of 6:42.6, which was behind first-place Bucknell (6:37.1) and second-place Buffalo (6:40.8). Raejean Pearse-Theroux was the cox of the URI boat, which was occupied by Whitney Phaup, Jenessa Redfern, Alexandria Perone, Tamara Burman, Nicole Klaiber, Meghan Wolfe, Rebecca Cotreau, and Kathleen Hinkel.

In the Varsity 4 Grand Final, the URI `A' boat recorded a second-place finish as they crossed the finish line in 7:47.3, which was a little over 10 seconds behind first-place Bucknell (7:35.9). The Rams were led by cox Allie Woodhull, Karin Fulkerson, Jill Brockmann, Ayla Fox, and Julie Solar.

The URI `B' boat in the Varsity 4 Petite placed first with a time of 8:06.5, nearly six seconds ahead of second-place Bucknell. The Rams boat was made up of Grace Rignanese (cox), Monica DelliSanti, Jenn Lombardo, Linnea Rowse, and Lauren Killea. Rutgers `A' was next (8:12.4), followed by UMass `B' (8:14.0), Rutgers `B' (8:36.5), and Delaware (8:56.2).

URI also placed first in the Novice 8 as Marion Gaviola (cox), Haley Fiske, Jackie Perry, Allie Mohnk, Rachelle Green, Kim Racine, Danielle Babiak, Priscilla Cookson, and Paige Houlihan recorded a time of 7:07.8. Rutgers was second (7:10.0), followed by UMass (7:13.4), George Mason (7:15.0), Buffalo (7:18.9), and Marist (7:22.7).

In the JV 8 race, URI placed fourth with a time of 6:54.87. The boat - which was made up of Ashley Coughlin (cox), Amy VanRensburg, Jenna Hetzell, Lucy Sumners, Stephanie Schubert, Tara Dorsey, Ryan O'Hara, Mallory Fossa, and Beth McArdle - finished behind Bucknell (6:50.39), UMass (6:51.57), and Buffalo (6:54.81).

The Rams conclude their season at the Eastern Springs in Camden, N.J. on Sunday, May 18.
