KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island was officially named as part of the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championship field Tuesday evening.

The Rams – who earned an automatic bid to the championship by winning the Atlantic 10 title – were the second team announced during NCAA's live selection show. Making the third NCAA appearance in program history, Rhode Island will be one of 22 teams competing May 25-27 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.

Team members and coaches gathered at the Mews Tavern in Wakefield to watch the selection show together. Rhody's Varsity 8 boat was seeded No. 21, while the Second Varsity 8 boat was No. 19 in its flight. The team's Varsity 4 boat is seeded No. 21 in its flight.

Rhode Island has placed 21st in each of its previous NCAA Championship appearances. The Rams last went in 2016, and also made the field in 2013, the first year the Atlantic 10 champion earned an automatic bid.

Defending national champion Washington is the top seed in all three flights. In the Varsity 8 flight, Stanford, California, Texas and Ohio State round out the top five seeds.
