URI Gymnastics Finishes Second at ECAC Championship

Heaney Named ECAC Gymnast of the Week

March 22, 2007

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior Kylie Tanner was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Coach's Choice Award winner, Thursday, after bouncing back to compete in the Rams' meet at George Washington last Sunday

After re-entering the line-up the previous week at home in her first action since knee surgery in January, Tanner came down with a severe case of bronchitis during the week, which kept her completely out of the gym and unable to train.

She began feeling better on Friday, and intended to train that day when campus was shut down by a Nor'Easter that hit.

Despite her lack of practice time, she was still able to compete against the host Colonials and Ohio State on uneven bars, doing her routine and sticking her double layout dismount for the second-straight week.

Rhody travels to North Carolina on Friday, March 23, for a 7:00 p.m. meet with the host Tar Heels, along with William & Mary and George Washington.
