URI Gymnastics Finishes Second at ECAC Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The University of Rhode Island gymnastics team wrapped up its 2008 season with a second-place finish at the ECAC Championship Saturday afternoon at William & Mary. The Rams tallied 192.225 points, which was 1.725 points behind first-place Towson. URI head coach Chelle Kassabian was named ECAC Coach of the Year while asst. coach Craig Ballard received Asst. Coach of the Year honors. Sophomore Ananda Fraser (Diego Martin, Trinidad) led the Rams on the vault with a score of 9.800, which placed her third overall in the event. Freshman Lindsay Diamond (Marlboro, N.J.) received the Rams' second-highest score (9.600) - good for 13th place. Seniors Emily Rinaldo (Beverly, Mass.) and Erica Heaney (North Plainfield, N.J.) tied for the best URI score as each received a mark of 9.725, which put them in a 10th place tie. Junior Jordana Ginsburg (Cherry Hill, N.J.) tied for sixth-place on the bars with a score of 9.775, followed by sophomore Danielle Lee (Windsor Locks, Conn.) with a score of 9.700. Lee's scored earned her a tie for 13th place. On the floor, Fraser tied for sixth-place as she received a score of 9.750, followed by Lee in a tie for eighth-place at 9.725. Cornell placed third (192.075) at the championship, followed by William & Mary (191.325), Temple (190.825), Penn (188.575), Yale (186.650), and Brown (183.050). The ECAC Championship marks the final event in the history of the URI gymnastics program. Earlier this year, it was announced that the program would be disbanded following the 2008 season.
