URI Gymnastics Wins Quad Meet at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island gymnastics team placed first in its quad meet at Brown University Friday evening. The Rams finished with a score of 189.125, followed by Brown (186.550), Southern Connecticut (186.375), and Bridgeport (178.025).
The Rams placed first on the vault with a score of 47.775. Sophomore Ananda Fraser (Diego Martin, Trinidad) finished first overall with a score of 9.675 while senior Erica Heaney (North Plainfield, N.J.) tied for second overall with a score of 9.600. Fraser also led URI to a win in the floor exercise as she captured first-place individually with a score of 9.825.
Rhode Island also placed first on the beam with a score of 46.925. Junior Jordana Ginsburg (Cherry Hill, N.J.) posted the Rams' high score in the event and tied for second overall with a mark of 9.650. Heaney notched the second-best URI score (9.550).
URI finished second behind Southern Connecticut on the bars (46.400-46.125) and was led senior Emily Rinaldo (Beverly, Mass.), who received a first-place score of 9.650. Heaney placed third overall with a score of 9.575.
The Rams return to action Wednesday, March 19 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to face the University of Pennsylvania. The meet is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
