Field Hockey Earns Conference Honors

KINGSTON, R.I. - Seniors Joy Hess and Kelly Johnson of the Rhode Island field hockey team were named to the 2004 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey All-Conference team in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches.
Hess, the midfielder from Ephrata, Pa. has started every game this season and has tallied three goals for six points. Hess was also recently selected for the North/South All-Star game.
Johnson hails from Lancaster, Pa. and has been a consistent contributor for the Rams as a forward. Johnson scored one goal this season and leads the team with four assists.
Amy Brown and Hess were also named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team for not only being key athletes, but for their contributions in the classroom.
Brown, a junior from East Greenwich, R.I. holds a 3.75 GPA in secondary education with a minor in math, tallied one assist in the Rams 1-0 victory over Siena and notched a penalty stroke-off goal to help the Rhody to the 3-2 win over West Chester.
Hess has a cumulative GPA of 3.884 in communicative disorders and was also named to the 2003 Academic All-Conference squad. In 2002 and 2003, Hess was honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association earning Division I Academic All-American honors.
The Rams finished out the season with a 4-14-0 overall record and were 1-5-0 in Atlantic 10 play.
