Marti Kane begins her second season as an assistant coach at Rhode Island. A 1996 graduate of Maine in kinesiology, she works with the team's goalies and handles a host of administrative and coaching duties.
A standout student-athlete at Sanford High in Maine, Kane earned 11 letters playing field hockey (four), basketball (three), softball (three) and track (one). A two-time all-state and team MVP in field hockey, she was team captain of the field hockey and basketball teams.
She played varsity field hockey as a goalie at Maine under coach Terry Kix. The Black Bears won the 1994 ECAC Championship and Kane earned the Maine Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and was twice named to the conference academic honor roll.
For three seasons, Kane served as an assistant coach to Heidi Godomski in field hockey at Colby where she also worked as an assistant lacrosse coach. She worked at Sanford High and Bitteford High in Maine before coming to Rhode Island in 2004.
She is the U.S. Field Hockey Futures Olympic Development program regional site director. Kane coached a team at national Futures Championship last year in Virginia Beach, Va. that finished fourth in the nation.
