March 9, 2009

KINGSTON, R.I. - It was announced today that Tom Garrick has resigned from his position as head coach of the University of Rhode Island women's basketball program.

"I would like to thank Tommy for his years of service to the University of Rhode Island women's basketball program," Thorr Bjorn, URI director of Athletics, said. "I wish nothing but the best for Coach Garrick and his family as he embarks on new challenges."

Garrick, who took over as acting head coach in 2003-04, posted a 56-112 record at Rhode Island, including a 30-60 mark in Atlantic 10 Conference play.

"I truly am sorry that I was unable to help propel this program - at a school that I love so much - to greater heights," Garrick said.

"The athletic department will be conducting a national search for a new women's basketball coach right away," added Bjorn. "A search committee will be named in the very near future."
