STORRS, Conn. (AP) - Sophomore Megan Shoniker (Rochester, N.Y.) scored a team-high 11 points as the Rhode Island women's basketball team fell to top-ranked Connecticut, 91-43, Saturday afternoon at the XL Center. Shoniker finished the day 3-for-4 from beyond the arc while freshman Sherrie Session (Downey, Calif.) and junior Janae Miller (Alameda, Calif.) each added a pair of threes for the Rams.

For UConn, the victory extended the Huskies' home winning streak to 27 games - the longest in the nation.

Connecticut (3-0), which had five different players score in double figures, was led by Tina Charles' 21 points. Charles connected seven times from the field and seven times from the line. Tiffany Hayes hit 7-of-9 shots and finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Renee Montgomery and freshman Caroline Doty each had 14 points, while Maya Moore added 13 for UConn (3-0).

Senior Sierra Cooper (Blairs, Va.) registered eight points and six rebounds for the Rams while Miller and junior Lindsay Harris (Upper Marlboro, Md.) eash dished out three assists.

UConn shot 60 percent from the field while holding Rhode Island to 31 percent. The Rams committed 26 turnovers and 18 fouls.

Rhode Island (1-2) led 4-2 before UConn went on a 17-0 run over the next five minutes.

The Rams had 14 fouls in the first half, including six in the first five minutes. The Huskies meanwhile, kept Rhody off the line for the entire first half.

A 24-0 run made it 51-9 with 3:33 left in the half, and UConn led 53-16 at the break.

The Huskies didn't let up in the second half, scoring the first nine points and holding on for the 91-43 win.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Brown for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Bears.
