PHILADELPHIA - The Rhode Island women's basketball team fell to Saint Joseph's, 56-42, on Wednesday night at Hagan Arena. Junior Megan Shoniker and sophomore Lara Gaspar each scored in double figures for the Rams, netting 14 and 10, respectively.

Senior Lindsay Harris led the team on the glass as she finished with eight rebounds and a game-high three steals. Freshman Anisha Wilson, meanwhile, matched her career-best with a game-high seven assists on the night.

As a team, Rhody forced St. Joe's into 19 turnovers while committing 16 of their own. The Rams also held the Hawks to a 26-percent (5-19) performance from the field in the second half after SJU shot 57-percent (16-28) over the first 20 minutes.

Ashley Logue finished with a game-high 18 points for the Hawks, who improve to 14-12 (7-4) with the win. Rhode Island, meanwhile, drops its ninth straight and falls to 9-17 on the season and 2-9 in the Atlantic 10.

Saint Joseph's built up a seven-point lead (9-2) over the first two minutes of play and pushed it to nine (19-10) midway through the half. Rhody clawed back and used a 10-2 run over the next 3:54 to cut the deficit to two (22-20) but the Hawks outscored the Rams, 13-4, the rest of the way to take a 35-24 lead into the break.

Twenty-eight of the Hawks' 35 first-half points were scored in the paint - including eight layups in the first 10 minutes of action - while half of Rhody's points came off of SJU turnovers.

A layup by Harris got the Rams to within eight (39-31) with 12:18 remaining in the game, but Saint Joseph's went on to score eight unanswered points and never looked back, cruising to the 56-42 victory.

The Rams are back on action on Saturday afternoon when they return to the Ryan Center to face La Salle in a critical A-10 matchup beginning at 1 p.m. The game will be the first in a Rhody doubleheader as the URI men's team is slated to take on Fordham at 4 p.m.
