Inglese Nets 400th Win as Rams Defeat Albany, 65-60

Jan. 2, 2010

Box Score | Postgame Interviews

ALBANY, N.Y. - Rhode Island head coach Cathy Inglese picked up her 400th career victory as the Rams downed Albany, 65-60, on Saturday afternoon at SEFCU Arena.

The win, which evened URI's record at 7-7, marked a milestone for Inglese, who had previously won 273 games at Boston College and 120 at Vermont.

Senior Andrea Buck led all players with a career-high 17 points on the afternoon while classmate Lindsay Harris recorded her fourth-consecutive double-double (13p/13r) while also adding five steals.

Freshman Ashley Rivera added 14 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from long range while junior Megan Shoniker rounded out Rhody's double-digit scorers with 10 points.

As a team, Rhode Island shot a season-best 52.2% from the field, connecting on 24-of-46 attempts while scoring 22 points off of Albany's 21 turnovers.

Albany (6-6) got off to a quick 8-2 lead after five straight points by Ebone Henry and a three-point play from Charity Iromuanya. Harris twice cut the Great Danes' advantage to two before scoring on a layup to make it a one-point game (15-14) with 12:00 on the clock.

Albany responded with a 6-0 run over the next two minutes to make the score 21-14 and take its largest lead of the game (seven points) with just under ten minutes to go. Rhody, however, came back and put up 11 unanswered points while keeping the Great Danes off the board for over seven minutes to go up 25-22 before stretching the lead to four (31-27) at the half.

Rhode Island is now 7-0 this season when leading at halftime.

Buck went on to net 13 of her game-high 17 points in the second frame while Rhody connected on 12-of-17 attempts from the line.

The Great Danes were able to tie things up at 35-35 after four minutes of play but the Rams went on to take their largest lead of the game (12 points) when a layup by Buck made it 53-41 with 5:34 remaining in the game.

A pair of Albany foul shots cut URI's lead to 62-58 with 20 seconds remaining but the Rams held on for the 65-60 victory.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 5 when they travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on Holy Cross. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Hart Center.
