Q&A with Cindy Blodgett

Cindy Blodgett enters her first year with the Rhode Island women's basketball program in 2011-12, after spending the last four years as the head coach at Maine - where she had previously been an All-American player and became just the second woman in NCAA Division I history to lead the nation in scoring for two consecutive seasons.

The NCAA's seventh leading scorer all-time, Blodgett finished her career with the Black Bears with 3,005 points and set a total of 20 school records while leading Maine to its first four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. A two-time America East Player of the Year, she also earned Academic All-America honors in 1998 and was inducted into the University's Hall of Fame in 2003.

After a storied collegiate career, Blodgett was selected sixth overall in the 1998 WNBA Draft and played one season for the Cleveland Rockers before spending three years with the Sacramento Monarchs. She also played internationally in both Korea (WKBL) and France (FIBA).

Blodgett began her coaching career at Boston University, where she served as an assistant from 1999-2000. In her time with the Terriers, she assisted with recruiting and film exchange in addition to on-court coaching.

In 2005, she joined the Brown University staff as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator. In that role, she handled recruiting and scouting as well as team travel, skill and conditioning workouts and postseason development programs. She also organized and directed the Brown Summer Camp. Blodgett remained with the Bears until taking over at her alma mater in 2007.
