Rhode Island Competes at New England Championship

Click here for complete results BOSTON, Mass. -- The University of Rhode Island men's cross country team finished 39th overall at the New England Intercollegiate Cross Country championship, held on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Franklin Park in Boston. The Rams totaled 1134 points in the 47-team field. UMass Lowell took team honors, with 79 points. Ryan Karwiel was the Rams' top finisher, crossing the finish line in 135th place overall. He covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:36. Nathan Ruchames was URI's second finisher, clocking a time of 27:43, good for 223rd place. Daniel Hawkins was 247th overall, in a time of 28:12, while Michael Pezzullo was close behind, in 258th place (28:24). Joseph Ferro rounded out the Rhode Island scorers, with his 268th place finish (28:45). Michael Liu was the final URI runner to cross the finish line (295th, 30:09). Boston College's Tim Ritchie was the individual winner, in a time of 24:35. URI returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 25 when they compete in a dual meet at Central Connecticut and Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
