Rams Place 29th at NCAA Northeast Regional Championship

BOSTON -- The University of Rhode Island men's cross country team placed 29th at the 2007 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, held at Franklin Park.

The Rams totalled 808 points on the afternoon. Iona College took home the team title, with 37 points.

All six of the Rhody harriers ran personal best times for the 10-kilometer course. Twins Adam and Ryan Karweil led the way for the Rams, running together for much of the race. Adam finished 137th overall in a time of 32:43.70, while Ryan was 140th in a time of 32:44.25.

Also running as a tandem for the entire race were Matthew Gallagher and Nate Ruchames. On the final loop of the course, Gallagher was able to pass his teammate, finishing in 170th place in a time of 33:33.00, while Ruchames was 173rd, clocking 33:38.80. Rounding out the URI scorers was Chris Bienkiewicz, who finished in 200th place in a time of 34:25.85. Rounding out the URI finishers, John Cuoco placed 208th (34:55.75). Every runner on the team posted substantially better per/mile averages at Regionals when compared last months New England Championship. Providence's Max Smith took the individual title, in a time of 29:58.75.

The team's final meet will be the IC4A Championship, to be held at Van Cortlandt Park, in the Bronx, N.Y.
