Men's Cross Country Places 4th At Boston College Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -

The University of Rhode Island men's cross country team finished fourth to nationally-ranked Providence College, ACC power Boston College and Stony Brook in a six-team meet held at Boston's Franklin Park. Rhody showed a very impressive 45 second grouping for their top five finishers. All seven Rhody scorers finished within 60 seconds of one another.

"This is the tightest grouping we have had in the past three years," URI junior captain Matthew Gallagher (Keene, N.H.) said. "I am very excited about this true team effort."

Sophomore Adam Karwiel (Melrose, N.Y.) led the Rams with a 22nd place finish (26:37).  He was followed closely by Gallagher, who finished 24th (26:43).  Sophomore Ryan Karwiel (Melrose, N.Y.) and junior John Cuoco (Wilmington, Mass.) finished 28th and 29th, respectively.  Finishing fifth-man for Rhody was freshman Cornelius McCaffrey (East Greenwich. R.I.), placing 33rd in 27:22, while classmate Nathan Ruchames (Binghampton, N.Y.) followed with a 34th place finish (27:28). Rounding out the team finishers were senior Thomas Stepan (Nashua, N.H.) in 36th place (27:37) and Stephen Salisbury in 53rd place (29:36).

Rhody's next meet will be at the Quinnipiac College Invitational on Friday, September 22 at 4:00pm
