Rams Sit in Third Place At New England Championship

The University of Rhode Island men sits in third place overall in the team standings after day one of the 2009 New England Outdoor Track & Field Championship.

Rhody has 27 points after the first day of competition. Massachusetts leads with 46 points, followed by New Hampshire with 29.

Jacob Keeling won the javelin throw, with a toss of 204-11 (62.46m). Ryan Rettinger finished fourth (188-11/57.59m), followed by Kyle Elliott in sixth (184-06/56.25m).

Greg Dean was third in the long jump, with a leap of 23-03.50 (7.10m). Shinzaburo Kida was seventh in the pole vault (15-3/4.65m). He tied with two others at the same height, but had more attempts.

Justin Nicoll placed eighth in the hammer throw (170-06/52.88m).

The second and final day of competition will take place tomorrow.
