Day One Recap
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The University of Rhode Island men's track & field team finished second at the 2009 Atlantic 10 championship, held at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center, on the campus of Charlotte.
The Rams compiled 130 points through the two days of competition. Charlotte won the league title, with 217.5 points.
Andrew Reigstad captured the 10-event, two-day decathlon. The freshman compiled 6088 points en route to the multi-event victory. Joseph Sliwoski was eighth, with 5281 points.
David Kennedy placed third in the 400m dash, crossing the line in a time of 47.97 seconds. Nick Sanborn was fourth in the 800m, clocking a time of 1:51.97.
Two Rams scored in the 100m dash, as Nicholas Guscott was fourth (10.77) and Jeffry Martins seventh (10.97). Alex Reid placed in two events, finishing third in the 110m hurdles (14.47) while earning a sixth place finish in the 200m dash (21.71). In the 400m hurdles, Manuel Richards finished in fifth place (55.30).
In the field events, Jacob Keeling (50-2.75), Tyler Adams (49-5), and Cory Thalheimer (48-11.5) went 2-3-4 in the shot put. Greg Dean, with a leap of 23-1.75, placed third in the long jump.
URI's 4x100m relay of Guscott, Martins, Dean and Reid placed third in a time of 41.37 seconds. In the 4x400m relay, Martins, Kennedy, Cameron Cormier, and Sanborn earned a third place finish, crossing the line in 3:17.65.
