Rams Place Fourth at New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - The Rhode Island men's track and field team finished fourth with 63.5 points at the 2009 New England Championships. The meet was held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
Sophomore David Kennedy (Essex Junction, Vt.) highlighted the afternoon for Rhody as he posted a pair top eight finishes, including a winning performance in the 500-meter run (1:03.36). Kennedy's time in the event was a season-best performance and hit the IC4A qualifying standard.
Kennedy also finished seventh in the 200m dash as he clocked a time of 22.32.
Fellow sophomore Nicholas Sanborn (Nashua, N.H.) finished runner-up in the 500m run as he clocked a time of 1:03.41.
In the 55-meter hurdles, junior Brian Alexander (North Kingstown, R.I.) and senior Alex Reid (Middletown, N.Y.) finished in the top eight, recording times of 7.81 (fourth) and 7.84 (sixth), respectively.
Freshman Nicholas Guscott (Baldwin, N.Y.) also posted a sixth-place finish as he timed a 6.44 in the 55m dash. In the distance events, fellow freshman Justin Ellison (West Islip, N.Y.) took eighth in the 1,000m run, finishing with a time of 2:30.60.
In the field events, junior Tyler Adams (Middletown, R.I.) took seventh in the shot put with a toss of 51 feet, 3.75 inches. Sophomore Jacob Keeling (Chepachet, R.I.) followed his fourth-place finish in the weight throw (55-4.25) on Friday with an eighth-place showing in the shot put (50-4).
Other field events other saw junior Michael Elliott (Lisbon, Conn.) tie for third in the high jump with a leap of 6-6.
Individuals, who have qualified for the IC4A Championships will return to action next week in Boston, Mass. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. on March 7.
