Junior Kevin Redmond Reaches Quarterfinals At UConn Invitational

Storrs, Conn. - The Rhode Island men's tennis team competed on Saturday, October 2, 2004, in day two of the UConn Invitational. The Rams ended the invitational successfully reaching the round of eight in Flights B, C, and D. In Flight C Eric Livingstone (Franklin, Mass.) was defeated by Jorge Acuna (Hartford) 6-0, 6-3. In Flight D Matthew Jones (Bolton, Mass.) played a tough match and lost to Evan Volkmen (Lehigh) 2-6, 6-1, 10-6. Pat McGuire (Westerly, R.I.) also fell in the round of eight to Andrew Shapiro (Lehigh) 6-2, 6-4. Junior Kevin Redmond (Bedford, Mass.) was victorious in Flight B and was the sole member of the team to reach the quarterfinals of the invitational. Redmond received a bye in the round of 16 placing him in the round of eight. He then went on to defeat Mike Marano (Holy Cross) 7-6, 6-2. Unfortunately, Redmond fell to Alfredo Fernandez-Concha (Lehigh) 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. The Rams will be back in action Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. in Kingston, R.I. taking on Quinnipiac.
