PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Rhode Island men's tennis team traveled to Providence, R.I. this weekend for the Northeast Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by Brown University. Freshman AJ Nelson (Shreve, Ohio) led the Rams with a come-from-behind win in the finals of Flight 6 singles.

Rhode Island junior Jared Dorfman (Providence, R.I.) and sophomore Adam Gart (Bedford, Mass.) also advanced to the finals in Flight 3 and 4, respectively. Both finished runners-up as Dorfman was defeated by Brown's Kendrink Au and Gart fell to Bucknell's Jon Brenner.

Sophomores James McGuire (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Stephen Conroy (Westerly, R.I.) placed third in Flights 5 and 8 while junior Henrik Almstrom (Holliviken, Sweden) and freshman Nicholai Hill (Ottawa, Ont.) finished fifth in Flights 2 and 7, respectively.

In doubles action, the Rams were paced by sophomore Jeff Cote (Warwick, R.I.) and Dorfman's 2-1 showing in Flight 1. Almstrom and junior Dixon Simmons (Narragansett, R.I.) turned a 1-2 record in Flight 2 while Nelson and Hill were 1-1 in Flight 4. Rhody's final pair, Gart and McGuire, were 0-2 in Flight 3.

 

As a team, URI posted an overall singles record of 18-12 and was 4-6 in doubles.

 

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, September 19 when they travel to Storrs, Conn. for a 3:00 p.m. match against the UConn Huskies.
