BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Rhode Island men's and women's swim teams defeated Vermont at Forbush Natatorium this afternoon. The URI men defeated Vermont 157-93, while the Rhode Island women's team earned a 199-100 victory over the Catamounts.

On the men's side, Rhode Island's Matt Benedict set a pool record in the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 57.43 in the event.

Ten different individuals won events for Rhode Island (3-0). Junior Matt Emmert (Jacksonville, Fla.) won the 1000 freestyle (11:26.37) and freshman Christopher Healy (Middletown, R.I.) took first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.39). Freshman Greg LaValle (Rumford, R.I.) won the 100 backstroke (57.80) and sophomore Matt Hartke (Verona, N.J.) won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.50).

Senior Craig Keenan (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) took first in the 200 butterfly (2:05.59) and senior Nate Suida (Flagstaff, Ariz.) won the 50 freestyle (22.39). Sophomore Ben Robinson (Sinking Springs, Pa.) finished first in the 500 freestyle (4:45.23), senior Matt Benedict (Tempe, Ariz.) took first in the 100 butterfly (57.93) and senior Sean Krueger (Tewksbury, Mass.) won the 200 individual medley (2:10.52).

Rhode Island's 200 medley relay team of LaValle, Hartke, Benedict and Sean Tucker won in 1:41.05.
