URI Swimming And Diving Falls To Boston College

KINGSTON, R.I. -Despite strong performances from both teams, the Rams lost their dual meet with the Eagles. The men's team lost by one point, 149-148, to Boston College while the Rhode Island women fell 169-128 on Saturday.
The afternoon started off with "Senior Day" festivities. Head Coach Mick Westcott was accompanied by Athletic Director Tom McElroy in acknowledging the nine graduating seniors and all that they have contributed to the team over the years. The seniors included Christine Barclay, Jeffrey Beagen, Elaina Duggan, David Galatzer-Levy, Lisa Mangione, Joseph Meeker, Kate Mason, Dominic Moccia, and Kate Wilson.
Three members of the women's team picked up dual victories for the Rams. Freshman Kelsey Foy placed first in both the 500 and 1000-Free, hitting the wall with times of 5:13.26 and 10:37.29 respectively. She was followed by freshman Martha Ziolkowski with wins in the 100 and 200-Backstroke at times of 1:00.60 and 2:08.39, and Sophomore Cassie Mizia, who swam to victory in the 50 and 100-Free with times of 25.27 and 54.55 respectively. The Lady Rams record drops to 7-8 for the season.
The men's team was led by junior John Proctor with two first place finishes and a second place finish. He touched the wall first in the 100 and 200-Breaststroke with times of 1:02.27 and 2:16.70. In the 200-Individual medley, Proctor finished second with a time of 2:03.54 on the heels of freshman Ryan Sheatsley with a time of 1:59.09. Sheatsley also picked up the win in the 500-Free with a time of 4:52.69. The Medley relay team of juniors Kevin Donlevy and Anthony Randall, senior Joseph Meeker, and freshman Derek Denard started the meet with the win at a time of 1:41.09. Later, Denard placed first in the 50-Free with a time of 22.33. Sophomore Jason Jacinto picked up two individual wins, placing first in the 200-Butterfly at a time of 2:06.22 and second in the 100-Butterfly with a time of 54.70. Rhode Island closed out the meet strong winning the 200-Free relay with a time of 1:26.93.
Freshman Kyle Levesque won both the one and three-meter diving events, with scores of 202.65 and 186.53 respectively. Senior David Galatzer-Levy placed second in the one-meter with a score of 174.15.
The next competition for Rhode Island swimming and diving teams is the Atlantic 10 Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. Feb. 15-18.
