KINGSTON, RI - Former Rhode Island standout and All-Star midfielder for Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo Geoff Cameron will make an appearance at the URI soccer game versus La Salle on Friday night. Cameron will take part in the pre-game activities and will be available for autographs at halftime.
An Attleboro, Mass. native, Cameron just completed his third season with the Dynamo - where he was a 2009 MLS All-Star and a member of the First XI. He also was invited into training camp with the United States National Team during its World Cup preparations.
After a breakout season in 2008, the midfielder turned central defender finished runner-up for the league's Rookie of the Year award and received Newcomer of the Year honors for Houston.
While at URI, Cameron was a starter for the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship team which advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The next year, he was voted to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team and received the league's inaugural Midfielder of the Year award.
Following the conclusion of his senior season, Cameron was Houston's first pick in the MLS SuperDraft (42nd overall).
