Lindroos and Balicki Named A-10 Rookie and Player of the Week

Oct. 19, 2009

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island men's soccer freshman Thomas Lindroos (Espoo, Finland) and junior Greg Balicki (Wilbraham, Mass.) have been named Atlantic 10 Rookie and Co-Player of the Week, respectively. The A-10 weekly honors are the first of their respective careers for both Balicki and Lindroos.

Lindroos contributed a goal and an assist in a 2-0 weekend for the Rams. He scored his first collegiate goal just 2:43 into the game against Temple on Sunday after recording an assist in URI's win over SJU on Friday night. Had eight shots on the weekend - seven of which were on goal - and currently leads the team with 23 shots/15 on goal.

Balicki - who also was named to TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week - recorded five points (2G/1A) in URI's Atlantic 10 victories over Saint Joseph's and Temple. He netted a goal from inside the 6-yard box in URI's 3-0 win over St. Joe's on Friday night before setting up URI's first goal of the game in a 4-1 win over Temple on Sunday. He then went on to score the game-winner on a set piece, giving URI its second victory in as many outings.

The Rhode Island men's soccer team (5-7-1, 2-2-0) returns to action this Saturday when it travels to Massachusetts for a 1 p.m. match against the Minutemen (5-4-3, 2-2-0).
