Balicki and Williams Pick Up Weekly National Honors

Oct. 19, 2009

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island men's soccer juniors Greg Balicki (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Dwayne Williams (Westmoreland, Jamaica) have been singled out among the nation's best for their respective performances this past weekend. Balicki earned a spot on TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week while Williams was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

Balicki recorded five points (2G/1A) in Atlantic 10 games against Saint Joseph's and Temple. He netted a goal from inside the 6-yard box in URI's 3-0 win over St. Joe's on Friday night before setting up URI's first goal of the game in a 4-1 win over Temple on Sunday. He then went on to score the game-winner on a set piece, giving URI its second victory in as many outings.

Williams - who was one of just three defenders honored by CSN - played all 180 minutes in a 2-0 week for the Rams. He recorded the game-winner on a bicycle-kick goal against Saint Joseph's and anchored a back line that allowed just nine shots on goal over two games.

The national honors are the first of their respective careers for both Balicki and Williams.

The Rhode Island men's soccer team (5-7-1, 2-2-0) returns to action this Saturday when it travels to Massachusetts for a 1 p.m. match against the Minutemen (5-4-3, 2-2-0).
