Men's Soccer to Face Iona and No. 6 Dartmouth at Nike Hypertherm Classic

Sept. 11, 2009

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island men's soccer team travels to Hanover, N.H. this weekend to take on undefeated Iona and No. 6 (Soccer America) Dartmouth at the Nike Hypertherm Classic. Rhody is set to face the Gaels at 4:30 p.m. on Friday before a 2:30 p.m. meeting with the host Big Green on Sunday afternoon.

Ranked second in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) North Atlantic Region, Iona travels to Burnham Field with a perfect 3-0 record that includes wins over New Hampshire (1-0), Georgia Southern (2-0) and North Florida (3-2). Offensively, the Gaels are paced by Giovanni Destasio's two goals while Nils Binstock has picked up a pair of shutouts in goal.

Dartmouth also boasts an unbeaten record, entering the Classic with a pair of opening-week victories over Northeastern (1-0) and St. Peter's (7-0). The Big Green were ranked 13th in this week's NSCAA national poll and third in the Northeast. Dartmouth also was ranked No. 6 by Soccer America, No. 9 by College Soccer News and No. 10 by Soccer Times.
