Men's Soccer Announces 2010 Elite Soccer Academy Dates

Brochure | Registration | Health Form | Residential Camp Refunds | Day Camp Refunds

KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island head men's soccer coach John O'Connor is pleased to announce the dates for the 2010 Rhode Island Elite Soccer Academy at the University of Rhode Island.

The youth soccer camp, staffed by the University of Rhode Island men's soccer coaches and players, enters its third exciting year of operation after a very successful debut in 2007. REISA Director Coach John O'Connor commented "We continue to grow and get great feedback on what we have offer in terms of training and preparation and development of players looking to play at the next level."

The 2010 schedule features half-day, full-day, community and an Elite Academies which are designed to develop those players who are just starting in the game all the way up to players with an eye on competing in college. All sessions (with the exception of the community academies) will be held on the beautiful campus of the University of Rhode Island in Kingston.

June marks the beginning of the summer programs with the Advanced Day Academy that not only has a half-day component for players grade pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade, but a full-day session for players entering 3rd through 12th grades. The all-day academy is co-ed and will be divided into age and skill appropriate training groups. Players will participate in progressive sessions on defending, attacking and shooting as well as technically training and various games to test what they have learned.

In addition, all throughout the summer months the Rhode Island Elite Soccer Academy staff can come to YOU through our Community Academies. These weekly 2 hour innovative sessions are set up with a host community providing the players and site and the REISA staff then travels to them.

The summer camp season finished with the Elite Overnight Academy created specifically for high school boys with an eye on playing in college and particularly at the University of Rhode Island. Participants will be trained in sessions which will give them an inside look at what will be expected of them at the next level. Coach O'Connor notes, "We had several recruited players come to camp last summer and have commitments for the 2010 season from two of the best".

Coaches from the URI staff plus coaches from other New England Division I and III colleges and Universities will make up the staff. A bonus is that the participants get to know and work with the players from the University of Rhode Island as they act as camp counselors and demonstrators.

Rhode Island Elite Soccer Academy offers something for every age player. Quality instruction, experienced instructors, a fun environment and development as a soccer player are guaranteed.

The academy features a hand picked professional coaching staff who will conduct training sessions from a curriculum specifically designed for this camp by the University of Rhode Island staff. Training sessions are run by experienced college or club soccer coach who will be assisted by one of the quality college players working the camp. Between each session there are demonstrations led by URI Head Coach John O'Connor with the assistance of the college players which reviews or previews the mornings sessions. This type of training will let each participant experience what a college pre-season is all about.

The afternoon begins with lectures from professionals in the fields of nutrition and physical training followed by a 90 minute technical session coached by URI Head Coach John O'Connor and assisted by the college players. Participants work on individual and small group skills with the emphasis on quality repetitions in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

After dinner the players prepare for evening games where they get a chance to put into practice the things the techniques and tactics learned during the days training sessions. Evening group meetings before bed follow covering subjects such as the college recruiting process and playing at the next level.

Each participant will receive an adidas training kit consisting of two (2) t-shirts, shorts, socks and a ball which is mandatory at each training session and game. Players will also have the opportunity to purchase extra adidas training equipment is available through the camp store. Enrollment at the camp is limited to 90 field players and 12 goalkeepers in order to assure quality training and game experience. Evaluations will be written and provided to every player at the end of the week.

The elite residential camps are offered to the soccer player thinking of playing soccer at the "next level" and looking to improve his game. Players in this environment will get a preview of what it requires to play in an environment that is designed to replicate a University of Rhode Island soccer pre-season week. Technical and tactical aspects of the game are identified and developed through videos, discussions, college and professional player demonstrations, coaching sessions, small sided games, and full field competition.

Players from the University of Rhode Island and other college programs will assist in coaching, provide demonstrations, and act as role models throughout the week of camp.
