KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior goalkeeper Chris Pennock (Spennymoor, England) posted his 19th career shutout and junior Andres Ruiz (Providence, R.I.) scored the lone goal of the game as URI downed Duquesne, 1-0, on Senior Day at the URI Soccer Complex. Cox Sports will televise all of the action on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m.

After a scoreless first half where they were outshot, 5-3, the Rams finally got on the board in the 77th minute when Ruiz blasted a free kick off the underside of the crossbar and into the net after being tripped up just outside the box. For Ruiz, it was his second goal of the season.

Defensively, the Rams denied Duquesne a shot of goal the rest of the way as the Dukes' only attempt - a shot from the edge of the box by David Cassanelli - was blocked by sophomore defender Eric Hutson (St. Charles, Mo.).

Pennock finished with six saves - including three from Duquesne's leading scorer Joshua Patterson - to pick up his fifth shutout victory this season. His counterpart, Chris Torres, recorded three saves for the Dukes.

As a team, URI was outshot 13-8, but held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

With the win, Rhody improves to 7-8-1 (4-3-0) while Duquesne drops to 8-7-2 (3-4-1).

Prior to the start of the game, the Rams held a brief ceremony to honor their five graduating seniors: manager Colleen Ryan, Gary Crooks, Kevin Shaw, Domenic Petrarca and Chris Pennock.

The Rams are back in action on Friday night when they travel to George Washington for a 2 p.m. contest.
