KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island men's soccer team shut down Saint Joseph's, 3-0, on Friday night at the URI Soccer Complex. The victory snapped a four-game winless streak for the Rams, who improve to 4-7-1 (1-2-0) on the season while the Hawks drop to 0-10-0 (0-2-0).

Rhody took an early lead off a bicycle-kick goal by junior Dwayne Williams (Westmoreland, Jamaica) at the 5:56 mark. Junior Michael Tanke (Niles, Mich.) started the play with a long throw into the box where junior Andres Ruiz (Providence, R.I.) redirected the ball to Williams, who slung the ball over his left shoulder and past SJU's Andrew D'Ottavi for the 1-0 advantage.

URI doubled its lead just 30 seconds into the second half when freshman Thomas Lindroos (Espoo, Finland) sent a cross to the front of the goal where junior Greg Balicki (Wilbraham, Mass.) collected the ball off the heel of a Hawks defender and one-timed a shot over the goal line to put the Rams in front 2-0.

Ruiz went on to cap off the night with an unassisted tally in the 89th minute.

Senior Chris Pennock (Spennymoor, England) made five saves on the night to pick up his third shutout victory of the season. D'Ottavi, meanwhile, turned away nine Rhode Island shots - including five off the foot of Lindroos.

As a team, URI outshout Saint Joseph's, 21-10, and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Rams return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Temple (7-3-1, 2-0-0) at 1 p.m.
